DACHSER celebrates opening of Tyrol Logistics Center in Stans, Austria

On 17th May, the logistics specialist DACHSER celebrated the official opening of its new Tyrol Logistics Center in the Austrian town of Stans. The company invested some 6.5 million euros in the new facility. The site covers a total of around 20,000 square meters (215,000 sq. ft.) and began operations in late 2017.

Around 180 guests took part in the opening ceremony. Invitees included Kathrin Kaltenhauser (member of the Tyrol state assembly), Michael Huber (mayor of Stans) and various customers of the logistics specialist. The ceremony was opened by DACHSER COO Michael Schilling. “Our family-owned, globally active company has been present with a branch of its own on the Tyrolean market since 1995. This is why DACHSER sees this as a place where tradition and innovation come together in a special way. With the new logistics center, we are setting a major milestone, one whose importance reaches far beyond the expansion of our strong Austrian network with its nine branch locations. The Tyrol Logistics Center has been conceived with Europe’s system traffic and the associated contract logistics in mind, and will make integrated system logistics for general cargo even more efficient and more future-ready,” said Schilling during his opening speech.

Replacing the previous location in the town of Hall, the new Tyrol Logistics Center offers comprehensive transport and warehouse logistics solutions to our customers. The facility features 30 loading docks, with around 4,700 square meters devoted to warehouse and logistics operations and around 1,000 square meters available for offices and administration. During a future construction phase, there is the possibility of additional loading bays and parking spaces.

At the Stans branch, DACHSER can now offer customers everything from a single source: warehousing and custom-tailored services as part of a contract logistics solution, with direct connections to our extensive European transport network and the global freight services of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics.

The opening

At the opening, Günter Hirschbeck, Managing Director of DACHSER Austria European Logistics, noted that “this modern facility is of great importance for western Austria, and also beyond. At the Stans location, we enjoy close ties to the region as a family-owned company, and are creating around 40 additional jobs here.”

During the official opening, state assemblywoman Kathrin Kaltenhauser praised the actions taken by DACHSER. “Tyrol offers stability and reliability, and is an internationally connected location for business, right in the heart of the Alps. The DACHSER Logistics Center in Stans shows that our region is an attractive one and is moving in the right direction. Thank you for this YES to Tyrol, a YES that secures jobs in our state, ensuring its prosperity!”

Mayor Michael Huber also gave a speech that emphasized the company’s economic importance for the region, while also highlighting its future-oriented business policies.
Afterwards, the invitees, which included customers as well as political figures, business people, and Austrian media personnel, were given a tour of the facility, both in reality and virtually. This was made possible with a virtual reality headset at the opening celebration, allowing guests to dive into a 3D visualization of warehouse processes. With its high-resolution images of a virtual warehouse procedure, the headset offers increased process transparency and allows practical changes to be made earlier, during the planning phase.

Guests could also admire an intriguing DACHSER innovation: an electric delivery bicycle with a small swap body. It is one of several electrically driven, alternative urban vehicles currently deployed by DACHSER as part of the City Distribution Project that is taking place in several German cities. With this, DACHSER is creating an innovative, environmentally sustainable business model for the efficient transport of the customer’s goods during the last mile in the inner city. “If you want to shape the city deliveries of tomorrow, you have to combine proven logistics systems with new ideas,” explained Hirschbeck during his speech.
